A valve for use with radio-active fluids comprises a valve body A, Fig. 1, a valve chamber 11 therein, having an inlet and outlet 12 and 13 respectively, a valve closure member 35 and an electro-polished valve stem 36 extending through a spring-loaded packing member 51. The packing member comprises chevron packing rings preferably of a tetrafluoroethylene polymer loaded in an axial direction by a piston member 53 acted on by the spring 46. The spring 46 is housed in a chamber 31 in the valve body extension B comprising two cylindrical members 20 and 23 screwed together, the lower cylindrical member having a flange 21 to receive set screws 19 for securing the valve body extension to the valve body. The valve closure member is actuated by a diaphragm 61 subjected to control fluid pressure through a conduit 64.</p> |
