[Also in Group XXXIV] A spherical bearing or selfaligning cylindrical journal bearing is made by casting or moulding a housing 2 around a pre-formed insert 1, the housing being formed from a metal which forms a hard surface when chilled, and which has a coefficient of expansion less than that of the metal from which the insert is formed. The housing is preferably of cast-iron. The insert 1 may comprise a bearing- bush 6, and a loose pin 7 may be located in a radial lubricant passage 8 to limit relative movement of the insert 1 within the housing 2. |
