A backlight assembly is provided to enhance the efficiency of a light output toward a front surface and the luminance of a central portion of the front side. A plurality of lamps(143) provides light to a liquid crystal panel assembly. A reflective plate(144) is formed at a lower side of the lamps(143), reflects light emitted to the lower side of the lamps(143), and includes a reflective surface(145) having a central portion as a concave curved surface. An upper receiving container(110), an intermediate receiving container(150) and a lower receiving container(160) include side walls and bottom surfaces and receive the lamps(143) and the reflective plate(144). The reflective surface(145) of the reflective plate(144) is curved from the center of gravity. The edges and the center of gravity of the reflective surface(145) have a height difference of about 5mm to 10mm.
