A novel cyclic compound derivative having excellent skin whitening effect is provided to obtain a skin whitening composition having melanin production-inhibiting effect and pigment deposition-inhibiting effect. A novel cyclic compound derivative is a compound represented by the following formula I or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. In formula I, ring A is derived from an aliphatic or aromatic cyclic compound; Cn and Cn+1 are two adjacent carbon atoms present in the cyclic compound, wherein n is a positive integer; each of R1 and R2 represents a saturated or unsaturated linear or branched alkyl or acyl; and each of R3, R4, R5 and R6 independently represents at least one substituent selected from the group consisting of H, alkyl, alkoxy, acyloxy, acyloxymethyl, oxo, hydroxy, vinyl, nitrile, carboxaldehyde, carbonitrile and aldehyde.
