A coupling device for a 2wheel/4wheel drive changeover device for a vehicle is provided to employ a main cam, a main clutch, a control cam, a control clutch, and an electromagnet to simplify the structure of the coupling device. A coupling device includes a front housing(1), a cover housing(3), a rear shaft(5), a pressure plate, and an operational unit. The front housing(1) receives the power from the input shaft of a front wheel. The cover housing(3) is equipped with a bearing(2). The operation unit includes a ring gear tooth, a motor(12), and an ECU(13). The ring gear tooth sticks to the rear surface of the pressure plate(7). The ring gear tooth is provided at the inner circumferential surface thereof with a gear tooth(9). The motor(12) includes a pinion(11) to rotate in the engagement with the gear tooth of the ring gear tooth. The ECU(13) controls the motor(12).
