A color filter substrate of an LCD and a fabrication method thereof are provided to planarize a color filter substrate by forming a trench in a color filter substrate and forming the color filter in the trench. A trench(133) is formed in a color filter substrate(131). A plurality of black matrixes(135) are formed in the trench and are separated from each other at a predetermined interval. A color filter layer is formed in the trench placed between the adjacent black matrixes. The color filter substrate includes a white pixel part(137d). The trench is formed in the color filter substrate excluding the white pixel part. A depth of the trench is at least the same as a thickness of the color filter layer. An alignment layer(139) is formed on the color filter substrate including the color filter layer and the black matrix. |
