A method and an apparatus for driving a display device using variable reference driving signals are provided to supply maximum color gray scale by adjusting video levels based on video contents at respective lines. An apparatus for driving a display device includes an input unit(11), a reference generator(19), a driver(15), and an adjusting unit(18). The input unit receives digital values for the cells of lines and pixels of the display device. The reference generator supplies at least one reference driving signals. The driver generates driving signals based on the digital values and reference driving signals. The adjusting unit adjusts video levels and reference driving signals based on the digital values. |
