A system and a method for processing image data are provided to lower a compression rate of a subject and a subject perimeter and enlarge a compression rate of a background by applying different compression rates according to blocks of a source image photographed in an electronic device having a camera module, thereby reducing a data amount as maintaining subject-centralized sharpness. A system for processing image data comprises the following parts: a quality parameter table(62) for storing a quality parameter to decide a quality level of each block; a DCT(Discrete Cosine Transform)(32) for transforming image data of each pixel through a discrete cosine coefficient; a basic quantization parameter table(64); a quantization unit(34) which generates a quantization parameter by using the quality parameter table and the basic quantization parameter table, and quantizes the image data converted through the discrete cosine coefficient by using the quantization parameter; a variable length encoder(36) for compressing the quantized image data through a predetermined compression mode; and an image file generator(70) for generating an image file by using the compressed image data. |
