An apparatus and a method for driving a backlight of an LCD are provided to reduce motion blurring of a moving image by reducing a rendering time for sending a signal to liquid crystal and lighting the backlight after the completion o the rendering time. A gate driving unit(33) and a data driving unit(34) drive a liquid crystal panel to display an image. A timing controller(32) reduces a rendering time for displaying a pixel in one frame to allow an inverter to block light output of a backlight(38) for the rendering time, and performs driving to output light of a normal level after the rendering time is completed. An inverter(37) blocks light output for the rendering time under the control of the timing controller, and drives the backlight to output light having a normal level after the rendering time is completed. |
