An LCD and a fabrication method thereof are provided to increase capacitance between a common line and a source/drain electrode by using a low-resistance material such as copper for forming a data line and to increase aperture ration by eliminating the common line. A gate line(103) and a data line intersect each other perpendicularly. A thin film transistor is formed at an intersection of the gate line and the data line. A pixel electrode(119) is connected to the thin film transistor. A passivation layer is formed on a front surface of the substrate. A common line is formed on the passivation layer and includes a plurality of slits(123a). A metal line(125) is formed on the common line. An upper substrate is bonded with the array substrate. A liquid crystal layer is formed between the array substrate and the upper substrate. The pixel electrode is formed of a transparent material including an indium tin oxide. The passivation layer is formed of a photo acrylic material. The common line is formed of a transparent material including ITO.
