A revolving gas producer grate comprises a number of overlapping perforated helical sections a fitting within a downwardly tapering fixed skirt b. In a wet seal gas producer, Fig. 1, the skirt b has a divergent portion e extending downwardly into the ash bowl g. The grate is supported from the revolving ash bowl g by a conical part i. An air inlet j delivers below a baffle k fixed to lower skirt part e. An ash plough n secured to the skirt directs ash to a shoot o. In a dry seal gas producer, Fig. 4 (not shown), the helical grate sections are supported from a rotating annular frame surrounding the skirt b, and the ash falls into a hopper below the grate.
