857,888. Gasifying hydrocarbons. KLOCKNER-HUMBOLDT-DEUTZ A.G. Nov. 12, 1958 [Sept. 23, 1958], No. 36370/58. Class 55(2). Apparatus for the gasification of hydrocarbons comprises a cylindrical chamber 1 in the upper part of which there is centrally disposed a fan wheel 10 and, approximately at the height of the fan wheel or above it, a discharge opening 15 for the gases produced and which has nozzles 6 for introducing air and if desired gaseous fuel set approximately tangentially in the cylindrical chamber wall below the fan wheel, and at the bottom one or more centrally disposed nozzles 3 for introducing in an axial direction the hydrocarbons to be gasified, and radial guide surfaces 9 arranged in a circle along the chamber wall which start at some distance below the air nozzles and, extend downwards to about the bottom of the gasification chamber. Preferably the distance of guide surfaces 9 from the axis of chamber 1 is less at their lower ends than at their upper ends. One or more nozzles for admitting air may be provided in the bottom of the chamber 1 e.g. through socket 5 and chamber 4 as shown in Fig. 1. Preferably discharge opening 15 is centrally disposed in the end wall of chamber 1. The speed of rotation of fan wheel 10 may be so chosen that the quantity of gas returned to the interior of the gasification chamber is at least equal to the quantity of gas discharged through the outlet.
