A backlight assembly having a surface light source unit, an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) including the same, and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to reduce manufacturing costs and reduce a thickness of a dual LCD to be slim by using the surface light source unit using organic EL(Electro Luminescence) as a light source of the backlight assembly. A backlight assembly comprises a transparent substrate(310), a first electrode(320) formed on the transparent substrate, an organic EL(Electro Luminescence) layer(330) formed on the first electrode, a second electrode(340) formed on the organic EL layer, and a surface light source unit(300). The surface light source unit includes a passivation layer(350) formed on the second electrode. The first and second electrodes are made from transparent conductive material. The passivation layer is made form transparent insulating material. |
