[Also in Division G3] A planar air gap type of rotary electrical machine comprises two coaxial rotary shafts 1, 2 on which are respectively mounted in parallel planes an inductor 3 and a discoidal armature 4 having winding conductors extending on both sides of the disc, those on one side being contacted by brushes 15 connected to direct current carrying conductors 21, 23 extending from the machine, and those on the other side being contacted by circular tracks on which rub further brushes 14 connected to alternating current carrying conductors 22, 24 also extending from the machine. The inductor 3 is an annular permanent magnet which carries the brushes 15 and further brushes 17 which via circular tracks 18, 19 convey the current to the conductors 21, 23. The winding conductors are flat, a magnetic sheet steel housing 7, 8 encloses the machine, and the shafts 1, 2 are aligned either end to end or one within the other, Fig. 2 (not shown). The machine is stated to regulate the relative angular velocity of two turning members connected to respective shafts 1, 2, such as by using the frequency and/or amplitude of the A.C. voltage at 22, 24 upon a generator connected to the D.C. side of the machine. It may maintain the two driving wheels of a vehicle at a particular relative velocity, and is applicable to hydro-mechanic propulsion systems.
