An image forming apparatus and a method thereof for photo printing control are provided to restrain a user who is not authenticated from performing a printing operation using expensive photo printing paper. An image forming apparatus for photo printing control includes a sensor(10) and a controller(30). The sensor generates sensing information on paper set in the image forming apparatus. The controller reads the sensing information generated by the sensor according to a printing start signal inputted by a user when a photo printing control function is set, receives a user secret number for photo printing when it is determined that photo printing paper is set in the image forming apparatus and controls a corresponding printing object to be printed on the photo printing paper when the received user secret number corresponds to a previously stored secret number.
