<p>An outdoor unit for a multi-type air conditioner is provided to install a second four-way valve for converting a passage to connect a high-pressure gas pipe with a third connecting valve or to connect a low-pressure gas pipe with the third connecting valve so that the outdoor unit is applicable to an air conditioner for separate cooling and heating operation as well as an air conditioner for simultaneous cooling and heating operation. First, second, and third connecting valves(21,22,23) are connected with pipes(51-53) of a plurality of indoor units(41-44) respectively. A first four-way valve(15) is connected with a discharge side of a compressor(11) for converting cooling and heating operation. A high-pressure gas pipe(26) connects the first four-way valve with the first connecting valve. A high-pressure liquid pipe(28) connects the second connecting valve with an outdoor heat exchanger(12). A first connecting pipe(24) connects the outdoor heat exchanger with the first four-way valve. A second connecting pipe connects the first four-way valve with a suction side of the compressor. A low-pressure gas pipe(27) guides low-pressure gas returning to the third connecting valve from the indoor unit, to the suction side of the compressor. A second four-way valve(16) converts a passage to communicate the high-pressure gas pipe with the third connecting valve, or converts a passage to communicate the low-pressure gas pipe with the third connecting valve.</p> |
