A display panel is provided to enable a sub light shielding unit to be protruded from a main light shielding unit to an area where the opening portion of a common electrode is not formed or enable a light shielding storage unit to be extended from first and second sub storage units to an area, where the opening portion of the common electrode is not formed, to be overlapped with part of a data line, thereby preventing the leakage of light caused by the misalignment of first and second substrates, and accordingly improving the display quality of an image. A display panel comprises a first substrate(100), a second substrate(200), and a liquid crystal layer(300). The first substrate comprises a gate line, a data line(150), a TFT(Thin Film Transistor), and a pixel electrode(180). The gate line is formed in a direction. The data line is formed in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction to define a unit pixel. The TFT is electrically connected to the gate line and the data line. The pixel electrode is electrically connected to the TFT and is formed within the unit pixel. The second substrate comprises a light shielding layer(220) and a common electrode(250). The light shielding layer shields light. The common electrode is formed to correspond to the pixel electrode and has an opening portion(252) for dividing the unit pixel into plural domains. The liquid crystal layer is interposed between the first and second substrates. The light shielding layer comprises a main light shielding portion(222) and a sub light shielding portion(224). The main light shielding portion is formed in the edge of the unit pixel to cover the gate line and the data line. The sub light shielding portion is protruded as much as a predetermined length from the main light shielding portion to an area where the opening portion is not formed.
