An LCD, a method for manufacturing the same, and a method for driving the same are provided to open or close a front face of an LCD panel selectively using an upper polarizing plate to bring a document or a finger into direct contact with the front face of the LCD panel during a document scanning process or a touch input process, thereby maximizing the reliability in a light sensing performance. An LCD panel(200) includes a photo-sensing element for sensing a light having image information. A lower polarizing plate(226) is attached onto a rear face of the LCD panel. An upper polarizing plate(222) selectively opens or closes a front face of the LCD panel. A hinge part(228) connects a lateral face of the LCD panel and the upper polarizing plate. The upper polarizing plate rotates based on the lateral face of the LCD panel through the hinge part to open or close the front face of the LCD panel selectively.
