<p>An equalizer comprising memory for storing a set of filter tap coefficients for defining the filtering characteristics to be applied to an input signal; and means for updating the set of filter tap coefficients based on an error signal derived from a difference between a received signal and a filtered signal unless an error code associated with a received data packet indicates an error in the received data packet. CRC codes are used as error detection codes.</p>
