Apparatus to test the flowability of a physiological liquid sample, and especially blood, has a channel (12) to hold the sample (16) and an actuator (18) to give a cyclic change to the orientation of measurement particles (14) in the sample. A detection system (20,22) preferably shows optically the changes in the orientation of the measurement particles. The actuator is a pump to move the liquid sample to and fro along the channel, in alternating flow directions, to change the orientation of the particles. The pump has a displacement plunger (44) which is operated mechanically, pneumatically or by a piezo electric system to give suction and pressure at the sample, together with a flexible displacement membrane (28) which partially defines the channel. The measurement particles are out-of-round, preferably as effect pigment plates or whiskers. |
