The electrical active element (1), e.g. for displays, has an electrically controlled layer system (4) between front (2) and rear (6) walls. The rear wall is an adhesive ribbon, with a multi-layer carrier (8) of a lower plastics film (12) and a metallic layer (14). The edges of the front and rear walls are bonded together by film seals (20).
