Process to cut length of rubber web to length for manufacture of automotive tire

In a process to manufacture automotive tires, a rubber-based web is cut into lengths in a press-clamp (11, 12; 21, 22) assembly with cutters (1, 2). At the commencement of each cycle mechanical handling device is positioned over an end-section of web located over the lower tool. The mechanical handling device advances the web to the next cutting station. The mechanical handling device (3) then immediately advances to a position outside the cutting zone prior to cutter operation. On completion of the cutting operation, the mechanical handling device lifts the cut material from the press and removes it.
