PROCESS FOR PRODUCING NANOMETER-SIZE WIRE AND NANOMETER-SIZE WIRE

A process for nanowire production which is a technique completely different from conventional nanowire production processes and is simpler than conventional processes and in which the size and shape of nanowires to be formed can be more easily controlled than in conventional processes. A suspension of fine particles comprising a metal element is irradiated with a femtosecond laser to thereby divide the particles into nanowires comprising the metal element. In the process, the nanowires thus formed may be further irradiated with the laser to divide them into nanoparticles.
