The invention relates to a passive optical network featuring a central optical unit connected by at least optical fibre forming a branch from said network to at least one first optical component, wherein said central optical unit comprises: - transmission/reception means for at least one signal comprising at least one optical data component associated to a specific wavelength, - first amplification means of the optical power of said optical data component, - wherein said branch permits bidirectional transmission of the signal. The network according to the invention comprises in at least one of its branches, at least one first passive amplification medium, wherein said first amplification medium is excited by the first amplification means so as to amplify said at least one optical data component of said signal bidirectionally.
