A telephone connecting apparatus and method are provided to convert a prefix of a telephone number inputted by a user into a prefix of a desired communication provider automatically, and to change/set the prefix of the desired communication provider of the user easily, thereby coping with the user's selection and diversity of the communication provider's policy. An input unit(10) obtains a user's input. A memory unit(30) stores information related to prefixes of each communication provider. A telephone unit(40) provides a voice call by a voice input/output unit(50) while enabling a user to make a call according to telephone number information. A controller(20) provides telephone number information which exchanges a prefix in a preset way to the telephone unit(40) based on the information stored in the memory unit(30) and information by the input unit(10), and updates the prefix-related information under user control by the input unit(10). |
