A method of manufacturing a phosphor and a light emitting diode using the same are provided to improve the stability of the phosphor against moisture and heat by coating a surface of phosphor grain with a glass coating layer. A light emitting diode includes a substrate(10), first and second electrodes(30,35) formed on the substrate, a light emitting diode chip(20) mounted on the first electrode, and a molding part(40) enveloping the light emitting diode chip. Phosphors(50) each having a coating layer(52) formed on a surface of a phosphor grain(51) are uniformly distributed in the molding part. A recess having an inclined sidewall is formed on a central region of the substrate, on which the light emitting diode chip is mounted. The substrate has a heat sink for dissipating heat from the light emitting diode chip to an outside. The first and second electrodes are made of metallic material comprising copper or aluminum having good conductivity, and are electrically blocked from each other. The light emitting diode chip is mounted on the first electrode, and is electrically connected to the second electrode via a wire(60).
