A synthetic resin bottle whose plastic deformation under buckling is limi ted to provide the bottle with high commercial value. The PET bottle (100) h as a body section (130) continuing to a mouth section (110) via a shoulder s ection (120) and also has a constricted section (150) lying around the body section (130) in its circumferential direction. The body section (130) has a front wall section (130a) and rear wall section (130b) facing each other, a left wall section (130c) and right wall section (130d) facing each other, a nd connection sections (130e) for connecting the wall sections (130a-130d) t o each other. The outer shape of a cross section of the body section (130) t aken along the circumferential direction is substantially a polygon. The con stricted section (150) has left lateral grooves (1a, 2a) extending in the ci rcumferential direction from a left wall section (150c) up to at least conne ction sections (150e) and also has right lateral grooves (1b, 2b) extending in the circumferential direction from a right wall section (150d) up to at l east connection sections (150e). Ends (1ae, 1be, 2ae, 2be) at which the late ral grooves (1a, 1b, 2a, 2b) are close to each other are separated from each other to form intermittent sections.
