The device (1) has an electrical drive motor (4) in the housing. A rotary adapter head (6) is provided opposite the housing for receiving a screw gauge (8), and a measuring instrument (10) is provided for determination of the thread projection of the screw gauge into a thread (18). The measuring device has a slide (12) movable relative to the housing. A sensor element (14) is arranged to the slide. The sensor element has a front side stopper (16), which is supported while screwing the screw gauge into the testing thread at a support surface (20) lying at outer side of the thread.
