The mechanism has a speed change gear (12) with a movable conical surface, and a synchronizing piece (14) with a fixed conical surface engaging the movable conical surface. Thrust needle roller bearings (18a, 17a) are arranged between the gear and the piece and between the gear and a clutch hub (11), respectively. The surfaces have large diameter and engage when a synchronizing ring (31) is axially moved by an axial movement of a sleeve (20), and a conical hole engaging with another conical surface of the gear such that the gear moves against a spring (18b).
