The installation of the parent Specification comprising means for feeding logs through the installation, scoring and planing tools for converting the rough exterior of the logs into chips and saws for converting the logs into boards is modified by arranging for the chip-cutting tools to yield rectangular chips with the fibres extending substantially parallel to the long sides. The chip-cutting tools are arranged so to attack the logs that the scoring tools scratch into the wood across the fibres and the planing tools extend in the longitudinal direction of the log and dig out chips situated between the scratches. |
