A shower unit (12) for sterilising a flow of water, the unit comprising a sterilisation zone having an outlet portion (14) comprising a shower rose, wherein the sterilisation zone is arranged to be irradiated by a source of ultraviolet radiation (18) such that substantially all of the internal surfaces of the outlet portion (14) are directly irradiated by the source of ultraviolet radiation (18) and wherein the shower rose defines a plurality of apertures (16) through which the water may exit the unit, and wherein the source of ultraviolet radiation (18) and the apertures (16) defined by the shower rose are arranged such that substantially no ultraviolet radiation may be transmitted directly from the source of ultraviolet radiation through the shower rose to leave the unit.
