A magnetic head is provided to prevent characteristics of a read element from being degraded due to the effect of electromagnetic wave exerted on a magnetic head from the outside and to increase electromagnetic wave-resistor favorably. A magnetic head comprises a read head and a write head. The magnetic head is formed by ground-contacting a read element(5) forming the read head, with a substrate(4) through a resistor(10). An electromagnetic wave shield layer covers an area with the resistor. A shield pattern(7a) is formed to at least one of upper and lower parts forming the read head, as the electromagnetic wave shield layer. The resistor is positioned between the lower shield(7) and the substrate or between the lower shield and the upper shield in the laminate direction.
