The method involves reducing lamp output rendering parameter e.g. illuminant voltage, or the parameter rendering the state of lamp output. The parameter rendering the lamp output and the parameter of threshold discrimination are subjected. The lamp output is controlled based on the results of threshold discrimination on the output parameter or further parameter as actual value. The parameter renders the impedance of the illuminant. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program product which supports a method for controlling power of an illuminant e.g. electric discharge lamp (2) a digital control circuit for power of an illuminant.
