<p>This application relates to an injected molded preform, for instace for bottles, comprising a first layer comprising a thermoplastic polyester, preferably polyethylene terephthalate, and a second comprising an amorphous thermoplastic barrier material. The first layer is thinner in an end cap portion than in a wall portion and the second layer is thicker in the end cap portion than in the wall portion. It also relates to a method for making a barrier coated polyester article, comprising the steps of providing a polyester article having at least one surface, the surface having a temperature of at least 100°C, and placing a barrier material comprising a phenoxy type thermoplastic, or a copolyester of terephthalic acid, isophthalic acid and at least one diol, on the surface of the polyester article to form a barrier coated polyester article.</p> |
