<PICT:0864991/III/1> In a fluidised bed reactor having superposed beds the passage of solids down standpipes terminating above the next lower bed is facilitated by restricting the outlets, e.g. by giving them a frusto-conical shape Re, Fig. 2, forming the bottom of said pipes with apertured plates, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), or varying the outlet size with a slide valve, Fig. 6 (not shown). A further modification, Fig. 7 (not shown), has a frusto-conical outlet with an inverted frusto-conical baffle above it, and another, Fig. 9 (not shown), has a cylindrical outlet with a frusto-conical baffle in it having a perforated top. A final modification, Fig. 8 (not shown), has one or more valves each centrally pivoted in its own plane. The invention may be applied to processes and reactors for treating pyrites or sulpharsenides as disclosed in Specifications 755,259, 757,547, 758,956, 759,713, 844,506, 853,741 and 857,350. |
