An air conditioner and a refrigerant recovering method thereof are provided to store refrigerant recovered from an operating outdoor unit to interrupted outdoor units and the operating outdoor unit in sequence through refrigerant recovery operation, thereby recovering remaining refrigerant of pipes or the outdoor units without excessive pressure increase of the outdoor units. A method for recovering refrigerant of an air conditioner includes the steps of operating main outdoor units while stopping operation of sub outdoor units in refrigerant recovery mode(S200), and controlling operation of refrigerant guide elements in the interrupted outdoor units for recovering refrigerant of the operating outdoor units to insides of the interrupted outdoor units for a preset time period(S300,S400). The operation of refrigerant guide elements in the operating outdoor units are controlled to recover remaining refrigerant, which is not recovered to the insides of the interrupted outdoor units, to the insides of the operating outdoor units, according to the comparison between pressure of refrigerant introduced into the main outdoor units and set pressure therefor(S500-S800).
