A saw-tooth wire for producing a saw-tooth, preferably all steel, clothing for a roller or a carding element of a spinning room machine, comprises an elongate base or foot region and an adjoining toothed or blade region in which teeth 27 are formed by cutting. The teeth comprise a front, a back and two side flanks. Between the back and front of two successive teeth there is a gullet 28. The teeth of the saw-tooth wire are made by treating a wire (preferably profiled) with a laser device 56. The laser treatment may comprise the cutting or scoring and/or hardening of the teeth. The cutting may be laser fusion or laser gas cutting. One laser for cutting and a further laser for hardening may be provided. The hardening may be localized to edge regions in engagement with fibre material in use. The wire and/or the laser may be movable via electronic open or closed loop control. |
