An apparatus for controlling a degaussing coil of a TV is provided to use the degaussing coil to remove the magnetization of the screen image in the first power-on stage and then compensate for the tilt of a screen image after a degaussing operation is completed and then a predetermined time interval elapses. An apparatus for controlling a degaussing coil of a TV includes a degaussing coil generator(101), a tilt current generator(102), a switching part(103), and a controller(104). The degaussing coil generator(101) generates a degaussing current used to remove the magnetization of a screen image so as to drive the degaussing coil. The tilt current generator(102) generates a tilt correction current used to compensate for the tilt of the screen image so that the degaussing coil is driven. The switching part(103) selectively outputs a current from the degaussing coil generator(101) or the tilt current generator(102). The controller(104) controls the switching part(103) such that the degaussing coil is used to remove the magnetization of the screen image or compensate for the tilt of the screen image.
