The method involves identifying an image (P) of a central body made of rubber, and forming a convex contour (C) of a tire fragment assembly, where the fragment envelopes ends (4`-1-4`-5) of filiform parts (4-1-4-5) and crowns (2`1-2`3) of the central body. Characteristics e.g. projected length (L) of convex contour image, of a format of the fragment are determined from the image of the convex contour, where the filiform parts are made of textile fibers and metal. An independent claim is also included for a method for examining a sample of a tire fragment.
