A television having a power on/off function and a power control method thereof are provided to set a power on/off time of the television irrespective of a frequency within an operating time of a certain range, thereby preventing external invasion by giving effects as if a person is within a home during long term absence. A variable timer(20) has an operation time of a certain range specified with an operating time and an end time set by a user irrespective of a current time determined within 24 hours. A controller(30) is connected to the variable timer so as to exchange signals, and turns on/off power of a television in correspondence with on/off time if the user sets the on/off time within the operating time.
