An image pickup optical system is provided to secure the small structure with high resolution by using both aspherical plastic and aspherical glass lenses. An image pickup optical system(100) is composed of a first lens(120) having the positive refractive force, a second lens(130) having the negative refractive force, and a third lens(140) having the positive refractive force, which are aligned in order from an object. At least one surface of the first, second, and third lenses is aspherical. The image pickup optical system satisfies the following formula, 0.8<TTL/f<1.5, wherein the f is the total focal length of the image pickup optical system, TTL is distance from one surface(121) of the first lens facing the object, to one surface(142) of the third lens facing an image side.
