An information recording medium, and a recording/reproducing apparatus using the medium are provided. The medium comprises a data area including a user data area to record user data, and a spare area to record replacement blocks that replace defect blocks occurring in the user data area, wherein a defect list entry includes status information of the defect block and the replacement block, and the status information of the defect block which remain in the user data area after newly allocating the space area during re-initialization is changed from a first value to a second value.
