PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize transient response of a servo control system. SOLUTION: When a conversion speed e<SB>v</SB>(k) reaches a constant speed during pull-in operation, a start position e<SB>on</SB>is calculated by using the current constant speed e<SB>v0</SB>and setting a controller output initial value u(0) to 0, a controller initial value f(0) is calculated according to an initial value compensating method, and focus serve control is started when a conversion position e(k) reaches the start position e<SB>on</SB>. Consequently, an actuator 14 is prevented from getting saturated with a thrust at the time 0 when the focus servo control is started to obtain excellent transient response, thereby converging an objective 9 at a focusing position JF in a very short time.
