869,787. Liquid-blast switches. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. Oct. 7, 1959 [Oct. 23, 1958], No. 33947/59. Class 38 (5). An extinguishing chamber 1 for an oilblast circuit-breaker has a cover 2 provided with a cylinder 3 carrying a stationary nozzleshaped contact 4 and having an outlet channel 9 normally closed by a spring-loaded stop valve 10, members 1, 2 and 3 forming a closed annular space above the oil. On separation of the contacts 4, 5 the arc formed raises the oil level in chamber 1 to compress the gas in the space 12 until a current zero, when the gas pressure forces arcextinguishing oil from the chamber 1 through the nozzle, channel 9 and valve 10, an opening 7 and a channel 11 allowing restoration of the oil levels in chamber 1 and channel 9 after breaking. When interrupting low currents, the valve 10 is initially closed to increase the pressure build-up in space 12 and arc extinction is assisted by one or more oil pockets 13, openings 8 serving to relieve pressure in the chamber 1 when high currents are broken. The chamber may be partly or fully immersed in oil. |
