LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY AND GAMMA COMPENSATIVE METHOD FOR LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY

A liquid crystal display and a gamma compensating method of the same are provided to suppress degradation of display quality in a local dimming state by performing a gamma correction process for gray scale data. A signal control unit(210) outputs gray scale data and a control signal. A liquid crystal display panel(100) is operated according to the gray scale data and the control signal in order to display images. A dimming control unit(310) controls the amount of light of a backlight(320) at each region according to the gray scale data. A gamma setting unit(220) provides a correction gamma value in a local dimming state and provides a basic gamma value in a non-local dimming state. A gamma correction unit(230) performs a gamma correction process for the gray scale data by using the gamma value of the gamma setting unit.
