<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical waveguide device having a simple optical waveguide structure that selectively attenuates one polarization mode of propagating light. <P>SOLUTION: The optical waveguide device is provided with a multi-layered clad 20 formed by stacking one or more layers of a high refractive index layer 21 using a material with a higher refractive index than the core 11 and a low refractive index layer 22 using a material with a lower refractive index than the core 11 structured on a substrate 10, on which an optical waveguide is formed. Thus, the structural birefringence of this multi-layered clad 20 is used to increase the polarization dependence of the optical waveguide. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
