PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an output method and an output apparatus in which a viewer who is viewing a television program, can view a missed caption without affecting a stream of video images if the viewer misses audio or caption of the program. SOLUTION: An output apparatus 1 receives video data and audio data of which the output timing is made to correspond to the video data, from a tuner 12 or an external signal input section 13, generates character data from the received audio data and records the generated character data in a recording section 11.
