PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector which keeps a projection image within the view frame of a screen and suppresses the image quality deterioration of the projection image. SOLUTION: The projector allows an image deform mode and an image cut mode to be set. A view angle converter 3 applies a deforming process to image data stored in a memory a so as to keep an image shown by projecting an image formed on a liquid crystal panel 7 within a display area, acquires position information corresponding to the display area about the image formed on the panel 7, based on the deforming-processed image data, and determines an effective area on the image data stored in the memory a, based on the position information. At the image cut mode, an image data extractor 14 extracts image data corresponding to the effective area determined by the converter 3 from the image data stored in the memory a.
