PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that a gray color resulting from mixing colors CMY and a gray color resulting from mixing colors CMYLcLm differ from each other in hue, resulting in difference in hue of gray from a highlight area to a medium lightness area. SOLUTION: A gray elimination section 301 eliminates a gray component G from signals C1, M1, Y1. A contrast resolution table 106 outputs a target density of a color material obtained by combining dark color materials and light color materials in cyan and magenta from signals C2, M2. A color material amount calculation section 302 calculates target color material amounts of cyan and magenta on the basis of signals C2, M2, Y2, K1 and the target density. A cyan/magenta contrast resolution section 303 outputs signals C2', Lc, M2', Lm of the dark color materials and the light color materials in cyan and magenta on the basis of the target density and the target color material amount.
