PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device capable of surely preventing the excessive temperature rise at both end parts of a heating member and a fixing member in the width direction even if it is impossible to accurately vary the adjustment range of a magnetic flux acting on the heating member, and to provide an image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: The fixing device includes: a magnetic flux generation means for generating the magnetic flux; the heating member 23 heated by the magnetic flux; a magnetic flux adjustment member 29 for reducing the magnetic flux acting on the heating member 23 related to the prescribed adjustment range in the width direction; and varying means 50 and 51 for varying the adjustment range by driving the magnetic flux adjustment member 29 so that the heating range of the heating member 23 may be varied in accordance with the size of the recording medium in the width direction. The drive control of the magnetic flux adjustment member 29 is performed by the varying means 50 and 51 so that the heating range may be fixed after the adjustment range is gradually reduced from a state of becoming the largest L1.
